Safety relay for use with Triconex® safety PLCs

Weidmüller SCS 24VDC P1SIL3DS I safety relay permitted for use with Triconex® safety systems from Schneider Electric. Proof of compatibility with Schneider’s TriconTM, TridentTM and Tri-GPTM systems / TÜV NORD certification in accordance with EN 61508 for safety requirement level SIL3 / SCS 24VDC P1SIL3DS I safety relay is UL-listed.

Weidmüller designed its “SCS 24VDC P1SIL3DS I” safety relay for use with Triconex® safety systems from Schneider Electric. Extensive integration testing has shown that the safety relay is not sensitive to the test pulses from the basic Triconex® module, which means it can work completely reliably with Triconex® safety systems. Schneider Electric documents the permission in “Triconex Technical Application Note #48, Revision 5”, where it is currently the only relay listed. A proof of compatibility is available for use with Tricon™, Trident™ and Tri-GP™ systems. TÜV NORD has certified the new safety relay as an “Approved Safety Function”. This means that it meets the requirements of EN 61508 up to SIL (Safety Integrity Level) 3 as well as the international requirements. The safety relay is used to deactivate systems in the processing industry for safety purposes (DTS = de-energised to safe), i.e. functional safety. The goal of functional safety procedures is to reduce risks for people and the environment to a tolerable level.

The SCS 24VDC P1SIL3DS I safety relay uses a test pulse filter and three input relays connected in parallel. The relay contacts in the output are connected in series. This ensures that systems are de-energised for safety purposes even if the contacts stick. The relay circuit is protected against overloading and short-circuits by a 5 A miniature fuse. The fuse can be accessed via the front of the casing, and can be replaced quickly on-site without opening the casing. There are connections available for using an external fuse. The front of the unit features a “Relay OUTPUT” status LED. The LED lights yellow when the input circuit of the device is actuated. The status LED does not indicate the electrical switching state at the device output.

Weidmüller’s SCS 24VDC P1SIL3DS I safety relay is part of the SAFESERIES, and is used for the emergency deactivation of systems and sub-systems in the processing industry. TÜV NORD has certified the safety relay as an “approved safety function” in accordance with EN 61508 SIL3. The safety relay is also UL-listed.

Weidmüller’s supports operators of processing systems in the processing industry with certified components for low and high requirement levels up to safety integrity level 3 pursuant to EN 61508.

The safety relay boasts tried-and-tested technology and sophisticated features. The maximum switching voltage in the safety circuit at the output is 250 V AC/30 V DC, the maximum switching current is 5 amperes and the maximum contact switching capacity is 2,000 VA. Measuring 114.1 mm x 22.5 mm x 117.3 mm (length/width/depth), the safety relay is compact and therefore does not take up much space on the TS35 DIN mounting rail in the control cabinet. Connecters with cross-sections of between 0.13 mm2 and 2.5 mm2 (AWG 26 … 14) can be securely connected using a screw connection. The safety relay is fully operational at temperatures ranging from -25 °C to +50 °C. The applicable standards are EN 61508 (functional safety), EN 61326-1, EN 61326-3-1 and EN 61326-3-2.
