Lithium-ion batteries dominate the market

.
The use of lithium-ion batteries is immense and will continue to grow. Lithium is likely to continue its triumphal march.

Electric vehicles and many mobile devices cannot do without lithium-ion batteries. Even though research is being conducted into replacement options, these batteries will continue to dominate for a long time to come. For example, metal-ion or metal-air batteries have disadvantages compared to lithium-ion batteries. The energy density is lower and technologies are still far from mature. Positive aspects such as lower costs or greater sustainability are of no use. Redox flow batteries, so-called liquid batteries, are already in use. However, these still lack cost efficiency and the CO-2 footprint is not the best. Sodium-ion batteries will probably soon be used in two-wheelers or small cars. Work continues on sodium-ion batteries. However, no other technology will be able to hold a candle to lithium-ion batteries for a long time yet.

This is because the energy density is usually lower, and this in turn consumes more raw materials to achieve the storage capacity of lithium-ion batteries. Lithium, cobalt and nickel will therefore remain extremely sought-after raw materials for a long time to come. According to the Fraunhofer Institute, this is particularly true for the next five to ten years. In order for other technologies to have a chance, major efforts are also needed in the research and development sector. Electric vehicles are becoming more and more common, as are mobile applications, so the demand for lithium-ion batteries will continue to be very high and multiply.

For investors, investing in companies that own the valuable lithium as well as other battery metals such as Green Shift Commodities or Targa Exploration is a viable option.

Targa Explorationhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/targa-exploration-corp/ – has several lithium projects in Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario, as well as a gold-silver project in the Yukon.

Green Shift Commoditieshttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/green-shift-commodities-ltd/ – handles exploration and development of battery raw materials and uranium in South America.
