The lithium-ion industry

.
The modern lithium-ion battery industry began in Japan in 1985.

The prototype of a lithium cobalt oxide battery was produced. The first commercial lithium-ion battery was developed by Sony in 1991, and mass production began in 1994. The result was the revolutionary portability of devices such as cell phones, laptops and camcorders. Other applications followed in the coming years. These were automobiles, power tools and energy storage. Batteries for portable devices evolved, tin, cobalt and carbon were added during production. The batteries became more efficient and also safer. The early 1990s saw the first prototypes of hybrid cars. It still took a few years before they were ready for the mass market. Then, in 1997, there was the first hybrid electric vehicle. There was still a lack of reasonable ranges, so again a few years went by while demand was still low. The 2000s brought the turning point for electric mobility. The first all-electric car hit the market in 2010. Two years later, Tesla released the first vehicle that was fully electric. The gigafactories that provided the lithium-ion batteries emerged.

Today, the electric vehicle market is growing worldwide, lithium is in demand like never before. And an industry is slowly emerging that focuses on recycling lithium-ion batteries. But until that happens, the lithium is supplied by companies that own the raw material in their projects. These include Alpha Lithium or US Critical Metals.

In Argentina, Alpha Lithiumhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/alpha-lithium-corp/ – is working on the development of two very promising lithium projects.

In Nevada, Idaho and Montana, US Critical Metalshttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/us-critical-metals-corp/- takes care of its projects. These contain lithium, rare earths and cobalt.

Current corporate information and press releases from US Critical Metals (- https://www.resource-capital.ch/en/companies/us-critical-metals-corp/ -) and Alpha Lithium (- https://www.resource-capital.ch/en/companies/alpha-lithium-corp/ -).
