Rheinmetall Canada partners with Elbit Systems in bid to win Canada’s Joint Fires Modernization project

Rheinmetall Canada and Elbit Systems have joined forces in pursuit of Canada’s Joint Fires Modernization (JFM) project – an initiative that will enable the near real-time sharing of tactical, operational, and strategic fires and effects information through a digital network, delivering an immediate common operating picture. Drawing on years of combined expertise in executing complex defence programs and developing dismounted Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) solutions in Canada, the partnership of Rheinmetall Canada and Elbit Systems offers a low-risk, high-quality solution for the JFM project.

Rheinmetall Canada and Elbit Systems will form a team to execute and support the JFM program in Canada with the involvement of affiliates in Australia and the U.K., guaranteeing interoperability between the systems.

Stéphane Oehrli, president and CEO of Rheinmetall Canada, commented: “Rheinmetall Canada is pleased to partner with Elbit Systems. With their combined expertise in command, control, communications, and tactical equipment, Rheinmetall and Elbit are ready to deliver dismounted and mounted digital joint fire solutions enabling the Department of National Defence to deliver responsive and accurate joint fire support.”

The JFM project solution will be integrated with the Canadian Army’s Command and Control Software (C2). Coupled with its strong Canadian presence and its leadership of Canada’s intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) and Integrated Soldier System (ISS) projects, Rheinmetall Canada has considerable experience with the Canadian Army’s Land Command Support System (LCSS) —the Canadian Army’s C2— and, in its capacity as prime contractor, is well positioned to integrate the JFM solution into the LCSS platform.

Elbit Systems was awarded a similar contract by the U.K. Ministry of Defence, which brings to the partnership a proven and already NATO-accredited solution. Together with its leadership of the British Dismounted Joint Fires Integrators (D-JFI) program and its involvement in Canada’s Airspace Coordination Centre Modernization (ASCCM) project, Elbit Systems has the expertise to consolidate and develop resources and capabilities for operational support of this kind and seeks to provide services on a long-term basis.

Haim Delmar, General Manager of Elbit Systems C4I and Cyber, added: “We are delighted to team up with Rheinmetall Canada in pursuit of this opportunity. I believe that developing a joint fires solution for Canada that draws on the Canadian and United Kingdom’s experience of both companies offers DND a higher level of technological maturity, a clear growth path, and robust five-eyes compatibility.”

"Rheinmetall Canada has been successful in winning major contracts due to its agility, capability and drive to innovate. Working with Elbit Systems to develop a flexible, robust, and responsive digital joint fire solution would effectively and comprehensively protect the men and women of the Canadian Army." said Oehrli.
