12 Materials Science Startup Finalists Confirmed for the 2021 Fall Edition of the Advanced Materials Competition

Twelve startups in materials science have been chosen as finalists for the Fall Edition of 2021 Advanced Materials Competition.

The Advanced Materials Competition (AdMaCom) is a fast-paced, two-week, equity-free Accelerator Program for startups with novel technologies in Advanced Materials. Organized by the Innovation Network for Advanced Materials (INAM), the program brings together the brightest minds in materials to make the right connections and to gain access to the broad infrastructure that the network is known for.

The Fall 2021 AdMaCom program will be the seventh edition of the accelerator and will take place on October 4th – 15th 2021.

Applications for the Fall Edition began early 2021 and ended on August 22nd 2021. Members and experts of INAM evaluated the applicants. Each applicant was given scores based on their ideas, technology, team and market fit which were then evaluated further by the board members of the network. The evaluation period ended in September and concluded with twelve confirmed startup finalists.

Amphibio Ltd. (London, UK)

Amphitex by Amphibio is the first 100% recyclable and PFC-free waterproof breathable textile for the sportswear and outdoor wear brands. Amphitex is the first of its kind on the market, developed at an opportune time as PFC regulations are being introduced and they plan to supply clothing manufactures in a B2B model.

3D Strong (Riga, Latvia)

3D Strong produces special additives based on modified Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which significantly increase mechanical strength and durability of metals, polymers, plastics; add electrical conductivity, remove statics and give unique properties to final products.

Mycocycle, Inc. (Bolingbrook, Illinois, USA)

Mycocycle is harnessing the power of nature to innovate traditional waste management practices. Using what nature has shown to be productive in cleaning our environment, fungi, Mycocycle is training strains to develop more sustainable, and less carbon intensive, processes that result in new materials. Mycocycle offers a circular, low-carbon alternative to transform waste to value.

Printoptics (Stuttgart, Germany)

Printoptics offers the whole process from designing and developing a micro-optical system to manufacturing it as a prototype or a small series. Typical sizes for such systems are 10µm-2mm and by printing them directly on a variety of substrates such as glass, silicon, LEDs, VCSELs, image sensors or even fiber tips, we can offer solutions for many different applications across various industries.

FaradaIC Sensors (Greifenberg, Germany)

FaradaIC Sensors offer a technology that allows microchip makers the ability to produce electrochemical gas sensors using their own existing equipment (conventional photolithography). In this way, silicon companies can become gas sensor companies. They invest heavily in the design of microfabricated electrochemical sensors and the accompanying materials.

The proprietary technology is a result of over 10 years of electrochemistry and nanotechnology research.

Thin Film Unlimited (Hamburg, Germany)

Innovative coating service (lab size and industry relevant size), for highly precise thin films and unique self-assembled nanostructures on planar and 3-dimentional objects. They have developed a unique coating machine and control software, capable of performing most complex and new deposition tasks.

POLTISS (Szczecin, Poland)

POLTISS develops PhotoBioCure technology based on polymeric materials that under the influence of UV light turn from a sticky liquid into a flexible solids. This feature allows forming a customized polymer implants (applied through injection), adjusted to tissue defects, in situ in vivo. The composition is biodegradable and eventually replaced by natural tissue.
