BMZ presents charging and battery exchange station for the City E-Taxi

BMZ GmbH will be presenting the charging and battery exchange stations it developed for City E-taxis under the Adaptive-City Mobility (ACM) research project at the IAA New Mobility World. “For the first time, this innovative battery exchange system by BMZ GmbH allows for fast and cost-effective development of the charging infrastructure needed for fleet mobility systems like ACM”, explains Sven Bauer, CEO & Founder of the BMZ Group in Karlstein a.M. “Manually exchanging small battery modules eliminates large and technically complex robot-supported systems, which remove the entire battery from the underbody of the vehicle in other battery exchange systems. In addition, protective charging for battery modules in the charging station eliminates the high infrastructure and system costs for fast chargers, although the vehicle is reloaded to its full range of 120 km in less than 5 minutes after the battery exchange”, Bauer explains.

Manual battery system exchange

In contrast to other battery exchange systems, exchanges are completed manually here. The battery modules, which weigh just 10 kg, are easily removed from drawers in the vehicle’s underbody, then placed in a transport trolley provided for this purpose. Fully charged battery modules from the charging station are available in the same transport trolley, so that the battery modules in the car can be exchanged quickly and conveniently. The battery transport trolley only needs to be pushed into the charging station to easily start the charging process. This is another step towards realising the vision of a future of sustainable mobility with maximum flexibility.

ACM mobility system for zero emissions and noise reduction

The ACM mobility system addresses multiple challenges which are confronting cities today more and more. Zero emissions thanks to green electricity and noise reduction, space and cost saving thanks to overarching multifunctional sharing, environmentally sound thanks to the resource-saving use of materials in lightweight vehicles, and a unique design that promises to offer a new driving experience and catch eyes at every turn. The research project is funded by the Ministry of Economics and Energy.

In addition to BMZ GmbH, other participating partners in the ACM project include Ametras rentconcept, EuroDesign, Fraunhofer ESK, Green City Projekt, das PEM der RWTH Aachen University, Plexiweiss, Roding Automobile, Siemens, and StreetScooter GmbH. For questions on vehicle testing, please get in touch with Green City Projekt GmbH, contact person Dr. Jessica Le Bris le-bris@greencity-projekt.de.

The Adaptive City Mobility concept will be presented in a press conference at the IAA New Mobility World in Frankfurt on 12th and 13th September 2017. The concept will be on display there through 17/09/2017 in hall 3.1, stand no. B45.
